Social networking is an umbrella term that encompasses a number of different websites which help people create and maintain relationships. Businesses are now realizing the importance of these sites and actors must too …especially because as of right now, it’s a free form of promotion.

For actors Social Networking is really “Social Marketing”.

Agents are using it to keep track of their talent, Casting Directors are using it to cast, and Producers are using it when finalizing casting. AND….Believe it or not … it’s important to them that you are “google-able”.

At The Savvy Actor, we focus on creating a brand for our clients and marketing that Brand. Social networking is a way of distributing that Brand to the rest of the world. As a result, you need to incorporate a social networking strategy as part of your marketing plan.

What is your Social Networking Strategy? Here are the first things to consider. As an actor you should have a presence on at least 3 of the 5 social networking options. Each one of these has a specific use.

• Blog If you’re a writer, love to write daily and have a great point of view, then you should also start a blog.

Now realize that social networking is continuously changing. New ideas will pop up. Technology will advance and sites will integrate. Look at Yahoo and Google as an example. Yahoo used to be the number 1 search engine, then Google took over.

Where to Begin? If you have never been on a social networking site, choose one and create an account.

If you’re an old pro start to think about how you use each site. Create a strategy. Be specific.
